Free things to Do in Cayman Brac

Lighthouse

The Cayman Brac lighthouse is at the most Easterly point of the island on top of the majestic bluff.  The views are incredible and it is a must see for all visitors to the island.

Sports Centre

The Sports Centre is on the road to the bluff and is definitely worth a stop.  It has full size, flood lit football pitch with running track and bleachers.  A 25m competition standard pool an indoor basketball hall and a playground.  It is very impressive for such a small island.

Christopher Columbus Park

Located on the Bluff, this lovely park is named after the famous Spanish Explorer who first recording sighting Cayman Brac and Little Cayman on 5th May 1503.  Paths and bridges allow you to explore the native flora and fauna, and several interesting monuments give you a sense of the islands history. 

Museum

Cayman Brac Museum is located on the North Side Road in Stake Bay.  It is well worth a visit and will give you a good understanding of the history of the island and it's people. It features exhibits on turtling, shipbuilding and other traditional occupations that illustrate the way of life on the Island in years gone by.

Heritage & Culture Centre

This is further East on the North Side Road in Spot Bay and is also worth a visit.  The main building once operated as a tannery and there is an old Cayman House on the grounds that the staff will be happy to give you a tour of

Caving

There are lots of caves in Cayman Brac; caves are everywhere, and they are all free to explore.  The bigger ones are well signposted.  Be sure to check out Rebecca's Cave, The Skull Cave and the Great Cave on the South Side and The Bat Cave and Peter's Cave on the North Side.  Each cave is unique and fascinating

Hiking

There are nature trails all over the island to suit all abilities and levels of stamina.  Good shoes/sneakers are recommended.  A trail map can be picked up from the Tourist Office near the airport

Snorkeling

The Brac boasts some of the best snorkeling in the Cayman Islands.  Snorkeling spots can be found everywhere with easy access to and from the water.  You can expect to see a variety of tropical fish and if you're lucky you may see turtles, rays, lobster, squid and even (not dangerous) sharks

Bird Watching

There are many amazing birds to be seen in the Brac.  Look out for the endangered brown footed boobies who nest here.  There are also lots of beautiful Cayman Parrots to be spotted as well as a myriad of other species

Public Beach

With cabanas, bathroom facilities and BBQ areas this is a go-to for locals at the weekends.  Located on the south side of the island

Playgrounds

There are playgrounds all over the island.  The best one is just past the airport access road on the North Side.  There is an exercise trail in here too

Calisthenics Park

Located just a mile east of Featherstone (turn right just after the bend and right again immediately) you will find a brand new calisthenics park.  This outdoor gym is a great addition to the Brac's many free things to do

Pickleball

This is a popular sport in the Brac and you can find games happening on the bluff on most days.  The courts are hard to find so message me for directions

Rock Climbing

Yoga

Rock Iguana also have an amazing yoga centre on the south east side of the island. Massage

Kelly runs a mobile massage and wellness service in the Brac.  See The spa | massage | Cayman Brac, Cayman Islands for info and to book.  If you are staying at Featherstone, she can set up in your home, on the terrace or under a cabana on the beach and you won't be disappointed - she is amazing!

Diving

Farm Tours 

The Soleil D'Or hotel offer golf buggy tours of their 20 acre farm on the bluff.  The guides are very knowledgeable, and you will learn all about the fruits, vegetables and herbs they grow and will get to taste many of them.  Call +1 345-948-0555 to book

    Cayman Brac Restaurants & Bars

    Captain's Table

    A lovely chilled restaurant with outdoor and indoor seating. The outdoor bar overlooks the pool which guests can use. Great menu, reasonable prices and often live music. Taco Tuesday is especially good value for money at $3 per taco! Located on the South East of the Island. There's a giant pirate statue outside so you can't miss it. Karaoke is scheduled for Saturday nights but if you want to sing any night of the week, you can ask and they will likely hand you a mic

    Tipsy Turtle

    The bar at Brac Reef Hotel has beautiful views of the pool and ocean although unfortunately restauarnt guests are not allowed to use the other hotel facilities. The food is good, especially on Fridays when there is an eat-all-you-can BBQ buffet. Wednesday is Karaoke, Thursday is quiz night. There is also a local craft market here on Tuesday evenings. You'll find this past Captain's Table heading East of the South Side Road

    Coral Isle

    A great bar with good local food and lovely ocean views. They often have music and dancing - especially on Friday nights. Coral Isle is just West of the cross-over road on the South East of the island

    The Beach Club

    Further west on the South Side Road on the sea side, you will find this gem of a venue. It's currently only open Friday-Sunday but has a fantastic menu and a beautiful setting. Guests are allowed to stay and enjoy the pool and beach after dining. They play great music and it has a bit of an Ibiza vibe. This is the beach bar sister restaurant of Soleil D'Or so most ingredients are home grown

    Soleil D'Or

    This farm-to-table restaurant is amazing. There is outdoor courtyard seating as well as a lovely air-conditioned indoor restaurant. This is Brac's only fine dining restaurant. Prices are high but worth it for a special occasion or just because.. Thursday night is pizza night where you can watch the chefs make your pizza to order. You can also get an educational golf buggy tour of the farm which is a brilliant experience

    The Alexander

    This hotel has a lovely pool bar with good food. They do brunch on Sundays and host a charity quiz on the 3rd Thursday of every month in support of the National Trust. Bar guests are allowed to use the pool

    Barracudas

    Head west from the airport and Barracudas is just past the bank and supermarket on the right hand side. A lovely indoor pub vibe with darts and shuffle board. The pizzas and burgers are all amazing. They also have sushi night on Tuesdays

    Star Island

    Slightly further East on the North side, Star Island is on the left hand side of the road. They have an incredible menu and do everything really well. They also make and donuts every day and sell them from about 10am. They're usually all gone by 11 so you need to be quick!

    Pat's Kitchen

    This is a lively bar with pool table and a restaurant next door serving delicious local dishes and amazing fresh juice. This is a little further East on the left

    Asian House

    Great Chinese food near the airport. Note they don't have a liquor licence but you can bring your own.  They will deliver to Featherstone but the kitchen shuts early (7pm last time I tried)

    Bussy's at Esperanza

    A great place on the North East side for jerk chicken

    Popo Jebs

    Near the airport, this place does good pizza and they will deliver to Featherstone

    Eats & Treats

    Turn left on the main road and you will be there.  They will also deliver

    Roatan Spice

    Keep going past Eats & Treats and you will get to the Roatan Spice food truck.  Their food is amazing!

    Izzy's Delights

    You will likely hear this pink and green ice cream van before you see it as they drive around the island playing music to alert you of their presence.  The ice cream is amazing and they also do a good selection of savory snacks.  If you want to know where they are, or request a visit to Featherstone, you can call or WhatsApp them on 1(345)938-4999
